Guide to Chocolate from England and Britain

Chocolate in England

England as a country is a big consumer country for chocolate per capita and a few very strong and internationally known brands also come from England. The names you may have Cadbury's flakeheard and which are British owned companies include:

  • Cadbury's.
  • Green and Blacks
  • Divine (co-owned)
  • Duchy Originals

Of all British and English brands, Cadbury's is the most well-known and they produce a wide range of bars and they have expanded to the point where the now offer a Cadbury's World day out for chocolate lovers and for school groups.

Some bars you might well have heard of by Cadbury's include the famous and very popular Wispa Bar, the Crunchie, the Flake, Fudge, Twirls and Picnic bars. Cadbury's have in fact been in business over 100 years, having started off in 1905. Learn more about Cadbury's....

Green and Blacks on the other hand are a much newer British company, having started in 1991. Green and Blacks though has risen to prominence very fast and they have fast gained a reputation as a quality brand and the whole focus is on organic chocolate. Most confectionary shops in Britain now offer the Green and Blacks brand.

Duchy Originals

Duchy Originals chocolate is also an interesting brand and one started by Prince Charles. This is another organic brand and a number of variety are made including orange, mint and coffee chocolates. These are harder to find in shops but a quality brand nevertheless.
