A Chocolate Massage:  What to Expect

Chocolate Massage Experience

When you hear about a chocolate massage, it's understandable to think of a scene where you immerse yourself into a vat of melted chocolate bars and emerge ready to lie prone on Chocolate massagethe massage bed, but that's not quite what the massage experience is all about.
Instead, a chocolate massage is much like regular massage experience, but the difference lies in the lotion that's used.  The lotion incorporates cocoa-butter, one of the prime components of chocolate.

The cocoa-butter is what gives the lotion its characteristic chocolate scent, the aroma of which is said to help relax the patient due to the release of endorphins (think pleasure hormone) that occurs upon detecting the scent.  Additionally, a chocolate treatment is said to infuse your skin with the healthful nutrients inherent in cocoa-butter.  Treatments offered by spas vary, of course, by spa to spa, but it is not uncommon for spas to promote a chocolate massage as a natural way to soothe your muscles and improve your skin, especially if you have sensitive skin that doesn't take well to other lotions.

The atypical chocolate massage experience is having the cocoa-butter lotion applied while liquid, and thus warm.  This creates a pleasurable sensation as it's worked into your body, and together with the scent and the nutritive properties makes for a unique massage.  Be forewarned however that this type of massage is not for everyone.  While some people proudly tout how great a chocolate massage is, others can't stand it, commonly citing the chocolate smell as a turn-off.  That said, if you want to experience a unique massage experience, then you should give the chocolate massage a try.
